Cement The Position

This week, Hebe Tian continued to cement her lead as the artiste with most No.1s. Counting all her No.1s with SHE, 'Ni Tai Chang Kuang' has now given her the 27th No.1. She would probably in a good chance to continue her lead probably until at least 2011.

Effectively, this year we have seen 5 times the Artiste with the most No.1 had a change of hands, and of course, won eventually by Hebe:

Until 4 April 2010: Andy Lau with 24 No.1s
4 April - 9 May: Andy Lau, Hebe and Selina with 24 No.1s (due to Shero)
16 May - 11 July: Selina and Hebe (due to 'Ai Shang Ni') with 25 No.1s, relegating Andy Lau to No.3
18 July - 26 September: Selina, Hebe and Jay with 25 No.1s (Jay tied the girls with 'Shou Le Zai Jian')

Also cementing their position is Lollipop F as they jumped 7-2 with 'Si Du Kong Jian'. This is their biggest ever, including the Bang Bang Tang days, as the group only reached as high as No.3 in 2008 with 'Yes'.

This week also marked Karen Mok returning to the Top 3 with 'Ai Mei Li Ai Mei Li' zooming 8-3. She was No.3 in 2006 with 'Shou'.

Female Veteran Day

This week chart is easily the female veteran day as all the artiste that debuted have been in the business for at least 5 years.

Kay Xie follows up her Top 3 hit, 'Huan Song Hui' which got to No.3 in 2009 with 'Di Er Ge Jia'. This is the 4th time someone mentioned about being No.2:

the show got 2 parts, Part 1 was by Lin Zhiying. already the ratings were not good. When the 2nd part airs, it was chopped. btw, Eric Suen took over the lead role from Jimmy then. i rmb becos Christopher Lee disappeared then and spotted long hair for the show. eventually, he was kicked out of the Top 10 most popular TV actors.

4 Times Lucky

The number 4 may not be that lucky for most Chinese. However, it seems to do wonders for Lollipop F, the act formerly known as Bang Bang Tang. This week, their 4th hit ever, entitled “Si Du Kong Jian (The 4th Dimension)” becomes their 1st No.1 ever.

Interestingly, ‘4’ is also the magic number for some of the greatest groups ever, such as F4. Will Lollipop F be able to scale the great heights as their peers?

The Actor

This week, there was an exciting chart battle and Malaysian songwriter/singer Gary Cao overpowered Singaporean songwriter/singer JJ Lin as Gary’s ‘Chou Jue’ frog-leaped over JJ’s ‘Ta Shuo’ to become Gary’s 6th No.1.

This also enabled Gary to tie Nicholas Zhang as the 2nd Malaysian male artiste with most No.1s. The Top 5 are as below:

2. Gary Cao – 6
3. Nicholas Zhang – 6
4. Michael Wong – 5
5. Victor Wong – 3

‘Chou Jiao’ is the second acting term on the chart, after Dao Ma Dan by Coco Lee reached No.4 in 2001.

The Idol And His Fan

This week, a very interesting thing happened on the chart. Derrick He debuted at No.16 with ‘Dang Wo Zhi Dao Ni Men Xiang Ai’, a song that sampled Aaron Kwok’s No.1 hit in 1995. He has professed his adulation for Kwok. However, no one would expect Derrick to debut on top of his idol as Aaron climbed only 18-17 with ‘Yong Yuan Ai Bu Wan’. Well....

· ‘So In Love’ has become Zheng Kewei biggest ever. Its peak of No.5 out peaked ‘Ke Bu Ke Yi’ at No.7. Not bad for songs from a bonus CD at all.
· ‘Shi Yu Hu Shuo’ at No.10 has become He Yunshi’s biggest hit ever, beating ‘Ai Ren Xun Wei’ which stopped at No.12 from 2002.
· Ni Andong is the latest contestant of One Million Stars which opened an account on the chart as ‘San Chang De Yong Bao’ entered at No.18. He is also the second Caucasian to debut on the chart after Fei Xiang in 1983.

I think this is no doubt the most pleasant top 3 we had this year. Each deserves at least 3 times at the top, though this will slow down the chart considerably. With Elva and Derrick flying up, I would expect a tough competition at the top within the next few weeks.

Is Tay Kewei so popular? 'So In Love' doesn't sound like top 10 material at all. And why hasn't Jeff Chang's 'Wang' entered?

Tay kewei's songs are so niceeeee! LOL, so in love is awesome, its one of the few non-emo (I group it under relaxing) songs to top my chart! LOL! :X

The 10 years seems to spell the end of an era. after 1990, people like Sky Wu, Pan Meichen can no longer dominate the charts. The charts from 1991 onwards are controlled by 4 Heavenly Kings. same also for 2000. from 2001 onwards, Stef, Jay, SHE swept ppl like Andy Lau, Jeff Chang and Daniel Chan aside. I wonder who will be supreme from 2011 onwards.
