Happy 1400th Chart! This week marks a new milestone on the chart history...

SHE Ownage Part 2

By staying at No.1 for 4 weeks, ‘Shero’ has become the longest reigning No.1 since end December 2008 when Mayday’s ‘Ni Bu Shi Zhen Zheng De Kuai Le’ spent 1 month at the peak.

Not only that, ‘Shero’ has become the girls’ longest reigning No.1 ever, ending a 4 way tie between Superstar, Bo Si Mao, Ta Hai Shi Bu Dong and Bu Xiang Zhang Da.

However, it looks like the ‘Superstar’ effect is also appearing, where during that song reign at No.1, S.H.E’s 2nd hit, ‘Yuan Fang’ failed to do well as the voters refused to give up on ‘Superstar’.

Movie Magic

This week, we see the effects of movie on the chart.

First up, Monga’s soundtrack, ‘Tonight Tonight’ by Ruan Jingtian and Zhao Youting leapt 7-3 and with their promotions still on, they have a good chance to hit No.1. However, the song is...

A Niu first burst into the scene in 1998, when ‘Dui Mian De Nv Hai’ became a big hit and spent 4 weeks at No.1. Since then, he has been sinking. This week, with rave reviews of ‘Ice Kacang Puppy Love’, he returns to the chart at No.16 with ‘Chun Wen Yi De Lian Ai’, 11 years after his last hit, ‘Ai Wo Jiu Jiu’ which reached No.7 in 1999.

World Expo

This week biggest debut is Singapore’s world expo theme song, ‘Gan Dong Mei Yi Ke’ which opens at No.11 for A-Do, Tanya, JJ and Stefanie. Interestingly, this is the best opening for all 4 of them. Will this song be their next No.1?

It would also be interesting if the theme song of World Expo also enters the chart, though it is a bit of embarrassment to the host country.

As If Nothing

By entering at No.18, ‘Ruo Wu Qi Shi’ has actually become Jaycee Fang’s highest entry, tying ‘Zui Dong Ting’ from 2004. Unlike the song, that feat is really something..

!! Finally i found where everyone was. Mediacorp changing forums is just so irritating.

Anyway, i hope S.H.E gets champ for the 5th time next wk, though i tink its highly unlikely. Havent seen a song maintaining champ for 5 weeks for a long time now.

Yea...most likely tonight tonight will champ. Even though i can't stand that awful song lol....but popularity haiz.

Damned! Wanted S.H.E to get a 5 times champ. But i guess its alright. GMM's song really deserves number one though. Next wk quite confirmed that e 4 local singers are gonna nab number 1. Its following SHERO's positions

why is SHE still so high! 4x #1 is too much already.... their ai jiu dui le should enter and knock this song out...

looks like charlene is still not going to get #1 anytime soon... with the 4 local singers flying so fast...

Chart Trivia Week 18

The Emancipation Of Mei Mei

When she started in 2005, Jocie Guo was singing bubble gum pop such as ‘Lao Shu Ai Da Mi’ and ‘Bu Pa Bu Pa’ which were both Top 3 hits and gave her instant fame. However, the image soon wear thin and her chart performances degraded so much that her 2nd album can only have ‘Ai Qing Nv Shen’ limped to No.17. Her career was in a bottleneck.

From 2007 to 2009, she undergone a major turnaround in image and song and she was eventually rewarded, as ‘Er Ren Tong Xing’ became her 1st ever No.1. What’s more, it dethroned S.H.E’s ‘Shero’.

Such major turnaround in career is not rare, but to do so in 5 years is really exceptional.

This is also the first time a Channel U production has a No.1 song, and thus effectively, making ‘The Illusionist’ the most successful TV soundtrack in 2010, beating ‘Together’.

Major Opening

It has No.1 written all over it, and it is destined for big success.

Little surprise that the all stars collaboration of A-Do, Tanya, JJ and Stefanie, ‘Gan Dong Mei Yi Ke’ flown up 11-3 amidst the grand opening of World Expo. This is the best opening in the Top 10 in for a local song since Yue Lei opened at No.1 in 1983 with ‘Yi Zhi Xiao Yu San’.

Strangely, not a single song opened at No.2 before except the 1st week of the first and second series.

All Grown Up

It is a very good week for local acts. Besides the outstanding performance of Jocie and the all stars collaboration, By2 has scored their 1st ever Top 10 hit, as ‘Da Ren De Shi Jie’ jumped 15-8. This is their best since ‘Wo Zhi Dao’ got to No.11 in 2009.

Also, kudos to Jaycee Fang as ‘Ruo Wu Qi Shi’ is his biggest ever, as it climbs 18-15 this week.

A few missed trivia

Just realised some interesting chart trivia for the past few weeks:

1. Coco Lee has officially tied Jiang Meiqi as the unluckiest artiste – 15 hits without a single No.1. Actually, Jiang Meiqi is slightly poorer in luck as she is without a Top 3 hit. Coco has 1.

2. SHE now has 35 Top 20 hits, tying Aaron Kwok as the artiste with the 2nd most entries on the chart. They still need 7 more hits to tie Andy Lau at 42.
