Mix Blood Prince

Congrats to Ni Andong or Anthony Neely to clinch the No.1 with his 1st hit, as ‘San Chang De Yong Bao’ lifted 2-1. This is also the 1st contestant from Series 5 of One Million Stars to hit No.1.

Anthony is the 4th artiste with mixed parentage to hit No.1, after Fei Xiang, Karen Mok and Tae. With the world becomes smaller, we will be able to see more artiste with mix parentage hitting No.1.

King Queen Collaboration

This week biggest news is probably the collaboration of Eason Chan and Faye Wong that opened at No.13 with ‘Yin Wei Ai Qing’. This song has some interesting chart trivia behind it:
· It comes from the movie ‘Jiang Ai’ which has the same title as Faye’s old No.1 in 2003
· The movie stars Faye’s husband, Li Yapeng
· This is Faye’s 3rd collaboration with top Hong Kong artistes. The other 2 were Aaron Kwok (Xing Kong Wu Xian Go For More, No.5, 2000), Tony Leung (Tian La Di La, No.8, 2002)
· This is the 1st time Eason collab with a female artiste. He collaborated with Edmund Leung in 2000 when ‘Ba He’ reached No.9.


Charts Bits and Pieces

· Freya Lin hit the Top 10 as ‘Zhong Shang’ climbed to No.8 on its 3rd week. She could only reached No.10 in 2001 on its 6th week with ‘Dou Shi Ta’.
· Lin Yuqun’s ‘Wei Lai De Di Yi Zhen’ crashed 5-14 on its 4th week. This is the most erratic run ever: 16-9-5-14. It shows that the crowd that supported him to go 16-9-5 defected within 1 week. Only ‘Sun With Love’ by Sun Ho has such runs in 2002 when she went 18-14-12-6-11-18. omg...
· We can almost say goodbye to 2 heavenly kings as they have disastrous outing. After Aaron slightly beating his smallest, if Andy Lau does not climb next week, ‘Zhen Ai Wu Tai’ which peaked at No.16 will be his smallest ever, beating ‘Tai Xiang Ai’ which peaked at No.15 in 2003.

Cover Reign

Congrats to JJ Lin as ‘Ji De’ returned to No.1 for a second week.

This is the longest reign for a cover version since 1995, when Faye Wong was No.1 for 3 weeks with a cover version of a Teresa Deng’s classic, ‘Dan Yuan Ren Chang Jiu’. JJ has also become the male artiste that spent the most week at No.1 with a cover version, beating Jay Zhou’s ‘Shi Jie Mo Ri’ and ‘Dao Dai’ which spent only 1 week at No.1.

The Reality and Chinese Invasion

In this week Top 10, we see a total of 5 songs from contestants from a TV reality show. The amazing thing is that, almost all the major reality shows in the region are represented:

No.2 – ‘San Chang De Yong Bao’ – Ni Andong, from One Million Stars 5
No.5 – ‘Zhi Wang’ – Yu Kewei, from Super Girl
No.8 – ‘Dang Wo Zhi Dao Ni Men Xiang Ai’ – Derrick He, from Project Superstar

Charts Bits and Pieces

· ‘Yin Wei Ai Qing’ has become the highest debut in the Top 10 for Faye and Eason at No.4. Prior to that, Faye’s biggest was ‘Ni Kuai Le (Suo Yi Wo Kuai Le)’ which opened at No.5 in 1997. Eason highest debut was from 2001, when ‘K Ge Zhi Wang’ opened at No.7.
· Show Luo’s ‘Ping Shen Me’ opened at No.16, his lowest for a first single since ‘Ge Zhong Qiang Shou’ also opened at No.16 in 2008. Looks like dance tunes are more popular for him.
· We welcome Xiao Huangqi as he opened at No.20 with ‘Mo Ban Che’, the first solo song that he charted. He first made the chart at No.19 in 2008 with ‘Ni Yi Zhi Dou Zai’, a duet with Yang Peian.

*Claps* I think I shouldn't comment more on Show's song. Listeners will know his standard. Alin song rox! Should reach 1....probably one of the most emo song this year even though its the start of the year.

say, did you all notice that 10 years ago, Jolin and Jay just started out and they were so close to each other on the chart at No.4 and No.5 last week.

speaking of Show, the voters alredy knew very well. Ai De Zhu Chang Xiu opened at No.13 and Wu Fa Wu Tian started at No.11. but this song only enters at 16. very clear indeed...

Mix Blood Reign Part 2

Congrats to Anthony as he returned to No.1 with ‘San Chang De Yong Bao’.

By making it 2 weeks at No.1, American-Chinese Anthony or Ni Andong, has the longest reigning No.1 song by an artist of biracial heritage, tying Kris Fei when he ruled for 2 weeks in 1983 with ‘Hai Kuo Tian Kong’. The other artistes with mixed heritage and ruled the chart were:

Karen Mok (Italian and Chinese) – Ai Qing (1 week, 1998), Dan Ren Fang Shuang Ren Chuang (1 week, 2002)

Tae (Thai and Chinese) – Bye Bye California (1 week, 2000)

Note: Although many Taiwanese artistes such as Jerry Yan, Show Luo etc are of aborigine and Chinese descent, they are excluded as these aborigines effectively is a branch of the Chinese people known as ‘Gao Shan Zu’. Therefore, they are not biracial in nature.

The Struggling Fans Part 3: Mission Impossible??

Every year, we see a very devoted bunch of fans trying very hard to gain points for theirs idol. In 2009, we saw the frenzy of A*mei supporters desperately keeping ‘Diao Le’ in the chart. Last year, we see Leehom’s fans desperately keeping ‘Ni Bu Zhi Dao De Shi’ to hit 200 points which they eventually succeeded.

This year would be the turn of Andy Lau’s supporter. Since its debut 5 weeks ago, ‘Zhen Ai Wu Tai' has been yo-yoing between 16 and 18: 18-16-18-18-16. Will Andy’s fans perform a miracle to garner him enough points for SHA2011?

· JJ has his biggest fall from No.1 as ‘Ji De’ tumbled 1-5. This is a repeat of ‘Wo Hai Xiang Ta’ which also fell 1-5 after returning to No.1 in end 2008.
· Xiao Huangqi has his biggest ever, as ‘Mo Ban Che’ zoomed 20-17, beating ‘Ni Yi Zhi Dou Zai’ at No.19 from 2008
· After ‘Ji De’, another cover version enters as Lin Zhixuan’s version of Eason Chan’s ‘Fu Kua’ debuts at No.19, making this year hits a new low in creativity.

I thought Show's 2nd hit is 独一无二? Or is it that 独一无二 and ONLY YOU are referring to the same song?

And just to add on, 香格里拉 by 魏如萱 is also another lousy and rubbish song, even worse than Show Luo's 拼什么 which the worst song on the chart currently. I really don't know why the new singers nowadays cannot sing normal songs. First it was Crowd Lu, then it was Xiao Hong Ren, then Yao Yao, now its Wei Ru Xuan. The quality in Chinese music has really decreased drastically over the years with these new singers releasing their shit to the listeners.

imo, Show is better off singing dance tune. this is so much better than ping shen me. Wei Ru Xuan's Shangrila is not that bad what. she always sings those quirky tune.

Mayb I just don't like weird and quirky tunes. Ping Shen me at least sounds more like a song to me. Wei Ru Xuan sounds like some female nun chanting some weird prayer in the song.

LOL blondie thats so insulting. But I dun like wei ru xuan too.

Fish's first hits seem to have a habit of dropping to the bottom and hovering around there a few weeks.. Next few weeks should be Faye and Eason claiming the top. Anyone finds 'Fu Kua' irritating?

Breaking The Curse

Congrats to Fish as ‘Ni Hui Bu Hui’ frogleapt 3-1.

This is her 13th No.1 ever, and it is also her 2nd time where she managed to send her 2nd single to No.1, after last year ‘Qing Ge’, proving that the ‘one No.1 per album’ curse has truly ended. She has of course, ended the ‘debut-at-No.13-will-not-do-well’ curse. Oh well..

Immitation Is The Biggest Flattery

While being frustrated at No.2 again with ‘Yin Wei Ai Qing’, Eason Chan received his biggest flattery ever. After Lin Zhixuan’s covered of ‘Fu Kua’ entered, Kit Chan’s version of his ‘Xiong Mei’ has the week’s biggest opener at No.14.

‘Xiong Mei’ is also Kit Chan’s return to the chart after a 6 years absent. She was last on the chart in 2005 when she collaborated with Joi Cai and Sun Ho with ‘Yi Zhuan Yi Wa’ which stopped at No.19.

Charts Bits and Pieces

· With 3 reinterpreted versions of other Mandarin artistes’ song on the chart (Ji De No.9, Xiong Mei No.14, Fu Kua No.17), this is the most in the chart’s 27 years history. Surprisingly, in the earlier days of the chart (ie 1980s), only Fei Yuqing managed to send reinterpreted versions of other Mandarin songs into the chart. People such as Luo Shifeng, Long Piaopiao etc who are famous for doing cover version actually charted with ORIGINAL songs!
· Zeng Yujia became the second Super Idol champion to chart, as he enters at No.20 with ‘Yi Xin Bing’, after famous illnesses such as Tanya’s ‘夜盲症’ (No.18, 2003) and Lala Xu’s ‘惧高症’ (No.5, 2010).

They are no other than Li Shengjie who hit No.1 in 2008 with ‘Ca Jian Er Guo’ and Lara Liang when she hit No.1 in 2006 with ‘San Hu Hai’, dueting with Jay Zhou. Lara thus is the artiste of mixed heritage that spent the most weeks at No.1.

for Show, i doubly triply agree with you. need to mute the radio when it comes on.

however, no surprise for Kit's high debut. she is highly anticipated. er... she has 5 No.1s before. dun you noe that 'Home' chinese version, 'Jia' remains the only national parade song that reached No.1? Her other No.1s include 'Ai De Zheng Hao' with William So and 'Xin Tong', her massive hit in the 90s.

Fu Kua is indeed irritating. Too much vocal gymnastic...
